CAMRA National Pub of the Year 2010/2011
In February 2011 it was announced that the Harp had been voted National Pub of the Year 2010/2011 by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). Following on from the CAMRA West London and CAMRA Greater London awards that the pub received in 2010 this national award recognises the pub's dedication and commitment to real ale.
Bridget Walsh who runs the Harp had this to say...
I'm really proud to announce that the Harp has won CAMRA National Pub of the Year 2010/2011. This is a real honour on top of the two CAMRA awards we received last year and I believe that this is the first London pub to win this national award.
I really want to thank the various CAMRA groups for their support over the last 40 years - starting in the '70s with the Croydon & Sutton group when I was at the Albert in South Norwood. Then it was the South West London group when I ran the Rose & Crown in Clapham and now the West London group who have stood by me in the 17 years I have been at the Harp in Covent Garden. I am extremely grateful to all of you.
This pub would be nothing without my excellent staff - some of whom have been here for many years. They work extremely hard especially at busy times to ensure that everyone gets served as soon as possible, and that there is some great beer to drink.
I also want to thank both my regular and occasional customers for choosing to visit the Harp from a vast selection of pubs in London. I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Over the years I've lost count of the number of breweries whose beer we've stocked - breweries who produce consistently good real ales that have proved to be extremely popular in the Harp. Your good beer has helped the Harp win this award.
Best wishes and thanks to all of you.
